Euphemism and obfuscation

The English language has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years with the proliferation of social media. Neologisms, re-appropriated words, marketing jargon and pointless phrases creep into our everyday language in the time it takes for something to trend.

Semantics and euphonies

Politicians and others experienced in dealing with the media always avoid uttering the simple words Yes and No: the exact choice of words making all the difference in what you are held to later on down the line.

I started noticing around London the use of couplet brand names for independent shops and coffee bars, presumably in a bid to infuse a sense of artisan heritage. I gathered as many together as I could think of and call them Collocating Couplets.
